I am a dancer and dance teacher based in San Francisco, California. I’ve been doing the dance thing since I was a teenager, and worked professionally for well over a decade before I began teaching with the guidance of my own instructors and mentors. This blog is a place to consider movement, dancing in a style from a culture not your own, and the complexities of being part of both a small subculture of a globalized dance form and a larger dance world, all in the context of preparing, practicing, performing, and doing ephemeral art a commercial, fast-paced world.
“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive.” Merce Cunningham
This blog is decidedly dance and movement oriented, but I do other things with my days as well. I try to keep my current projects updated here. I also like crossword puzzles and most everyday I wake up and wonder why exactly I don’t have a dog.
I welcome comments, replies, discussion, likes, and thoughtful disagreement.
